Winter Surprise...Helebore

Today (February 19) is usually warm for Upper Middle Tennessee, so I decided to take a walk along the garden path. Actually, I was worried that my Hosta may not have survived the sub-zero temps we have had this winter. Hosta are OK, buds are visible, but it will be a while before I see any leaves.

The surprise was the buds on the Hellebore. I would have thought it would be several weeks before they broke dormancy. Look what I found. I should have flowers by next week. Yay! If you have Hellebore in your garden, it's time to check for buds. See my other posts about Hellebores here: February Plant of the Month,  Flowers Outside in Winter   I Skipped Church This Easter
