Amazing Moon Flower

My first Moon Flower plant was given to me by a friend in Alabama. We had so much fun watching that plant bloom that I have carried one with me every time I have moved. I will have seeds to sell from this one in early fall – in time to plant for next years crop. I’ll post them on my side bar when they are ready. The Moon Flower is a member of the Evening Primrose family. It is not invasive but does reseed. The one in the video I planted this year, a mature plant can reach 5 feet tall, 4 feet across and can have over 100 blooms each night. They bloom for several weeks in June and July and as you can see from the video, it is quite a show. We used to drag our lawn chairs around the Moon Flower and bet on which bud would open next. I know - we need to get a life!

I will have seeds to sell right here as soon s they are mature. My plant is almost done blooming unless I prune it and I won't this year because I want all the seeds to mature. I'll post them on the side bar when they are ready. Probably late August. This plant will bloom it's second year. If you want to post a comment with your email (I will not post it on the blog) I'll let you know when they are ready.

How do you grow and care for your moonflower. Just as you, a friend of mine in Alabama gave me a small plant. It took 2 years but it bloomed this year. I live in Chgo and would like to know how to care for it to ensure it's survival.

Mine reseeds every year. I don't do anything at all to it. That's why I love this totally maintainance free plant! You might save some seeds when the pods look like they are about to pop open. You are a little farther north than I am. If your plant came back this year it will probably reseed too. Sooy I took so long to answer - busy week at work.
